Children’s drama lessons in West London
All sorts of children come to our classes. All personalities benefit from the Helen O’Grady programme, which has been developed by experts over many years to create a curriculum that encourages and enables all children to participate at a level they feel comfortable with.
The emphasis is on respect, friendliness and maintaining a non-competitive, welcoming environment that allows all children to feel safe and happy to express themselves.
Sessions are also fun! Humour, energy, co-operation and support are all essential ingredients.
Activities are group-based and encourage everyone to take part and progress at their own rate. There is a role for everyone – from budding young actors to those who still need to come out of their shell.
The Helen O’Grady curriculum uses speech activities, verbal dynamics, creative movement, mimes to music, language development, structured improvisation, dialogue development, snippets, scene starters, mini-scripts, parent day presentations and end of year productions.
The most important thing we do here at Helen O’Grady West London is teach or remind young people how to feel good about themselves. We promote a celebration of all individuals and focus on what makes all of our students unique.
Public speaking is a useful life skill, but many people understandably find it frightening, overwhelming and embarrassing to stand up in front of others. We use speech activities, language development and communication exercises to improve confidence in this area.
Helen O’Grady West London works with many children for whom English is a second language, helping to improve both language and speaking confidence in a relaxed environment.
The Helen O’Grady curriculum uses creative movement, miming and improvisation to encourage expression and confidence in our students.
Social and communication skills
Everything we do at Helen O’Grady involves working with others – expanding teamwork skills and the ability to participate, listen and contribute within a group or pair. These life skills are invaluable to our students as they venture out in the big wide world!
We are proud to say children, parents and teachers report an increase in confidence as a result of our classes. Please read some of our testimonials to find out more about how we have helped many young people:
My son has been attending Helen O’Grady classes for two years. My son is a thoroughly pleasant 6.5yr old young boy but he has some issues that means his balance and co-ordination are very poor.
He found these classes to be hugely enjoyable. He has noticeably developed his confidence over these two years and left every class with a smile. He also went in to every class and the first thing he did was say a confident “hello” to Adam. I have seen Adam interact with the children there. He commands their respect in a way that I could never do, even with my own son. I have no problem with that. I know my strengths and weaknesses. But he seems to do it by balancing the needs of each student with fairness and respect.
In short. If you are thinking of it. Give it a go. It is money well spent.
David G – proud Dad
My two eldest daughters began attending Helen O’Grady classes just over two years ago. My girls are very different, the younger sister, Willow, is loud, energetic and chatty, the older one, Nyah, is much more quiet, anxious and with a diagnosis of Autism. With Adam’s support and direction they both thrived at their classes! Willow was encouraged to use her energy in a positive way and she has found a love for performing, Nyah was able to build up her confidence. Prior to Adam’s classes, Nyah suffered badly from anxiety, would not participate in class assemblies or speak out in lessons. After just one term the change in her was amazing! She has now performed with Helen O’Grady twice on stage in front of hundreds of parents, sung at a theatre in front of thousands and joined the school band, things she would never had done before starting classes with Helen O’Grady.
Attending Helen O’Grady drama classes have made such a difference to both my girls, signing them up was one of the best decisions we made! Thank you for all you have done

I just wanted to write and let you know how much my family and I enjoyed the show on Saturday. The children were amazing and did you proud. I was delighted to see my son up on the stage, being part of a group who have worked so hard and supported one another. He really enjoyed himself – Thank you for a very enriching term.
